  "biographicalOrHistoricalInformation" : [ "I teach and do research on literature, film and new media at the University of Amsterdam, and I am a contributing member of Amsterdam University College where I served as Head of Studies for the Humanities from 2008-2010. My research focuses on literature, film, painting and new media, which I approach from an economic perspective. I have recently co-edited a collection of essays entitled \"Neo-Victorianism and Feminism: New Approaches\" (http://www.neovictorianstudies.com/contents.htm) with Tara MacDonald and, in 2010, I co-edited The Rise and Reason of Comics and Graphic Literature: Critical Essays on the Form, with Dan Hassler-Forest. I am currently writing a book on the entertainment industries in Hollywood and Las Vegas, and I continue o publish on gambling, addiction, and finance in various cultural media. I am currently supervising a number of M.A. and B.A. theses and serve on a number of Ph.D. committees. I invite students looking for a thesis supervisor at the level of Ph.D., M.A. or B.A. to contact me, and particularly students working on film, literature and new media. I am equally interested supervising theses that address the intersection of film, literature and/or new media with topics such as finance, gambling, money, play and serialization, as well as any other topic listed among my publications and conference lectures." ],
