Diese spielte vor allem Shakespeare-Stücke Open Air. Durch die zunehmende Popularität beflügelt begann er nach 20 Jahren die erste Amerika-Tour, bei der er auf dem Rasen des Weißen Hauses eine Vorstellung vor Präsident Roosevelt gab.1904 startete er eine zweite Ameika-Tour, die bis 1914 andauerte. Nach seiner Rückkehr übernahm er die Leitung des Old Vic Theatre, in dem v. a. Stücke Shakespeares gegeben wurden. Mit seiner Arbeit als Theaterdirektor verband er sein pädagogisches Anliegen, Shakespeare den Schülern nahe zu bringen. Über 20000 Grundschüler hatten so die Möglichkeit, eine Aufführung eines Shakespearestückes mitzuerleben. Das Programm wurden von mehreren pädagogischen Institutionen gefördert, so dass er damit über eine Million Schüler mit Shakespeare bekannt machen konnte." ],
