Kandolf ist ab 1918 Mitarbeiter des Karl-May-Verlags, \"Überarbeiter\" von Werken Karl Mays, Verfasser von zwei Fortsetzungen abgebrochener Reiseerzählungen Mays. Daneben verfasste er Theaterstücke nach unterschiedlichen Vorlagen, darunter \"Quo Vadis\" nach Henryk Sienkiewicz.
